What to Budget for a New Bathroom

A new bathroom includes new electric lights, sockets, extractor fan, floor and wall coverings, possibly re-plastering the ceiling. As well as plumbing, replacing the bathroom suite and installing fitted furniture.

If you can afford the best then it is easy to exceed £15 or £20,000 with the very best fixtures and fittings, unique design features and modern gadgets.

The price for your bathroom will depend on what fixtures and fittings you choose and how much space you have. Most bathroom renovations among our clients fall into what we describe as mid-range or “luxury gold” categories, between £9,000 to £16,000.

For £9,000 we can completely strip out a bathroom to the bare floor boards and fit a new luxury-looking bathroom with bath and separate shower in a room that is about 3m x 2.5m. This would be what we call a mid range bathroom.

For a larger budget this could be upgraded to a gold or platinum bathroom with extra details to add to the aesthetic beauty and user comfort. It is not unusual for people to invest between £13 and £16,000 on this room.

How Much Will a Bathroom Renovation Cost?

As a guideline:

  • Platinum: Bespoke luxury bathrooms and wetrooms can exceed £15,000
  • Luxury Gold Standard: £10 - £15,000
  • Midrange: £8,500 - £10,000
  • Basic: £7,000 - £8,500

The main difference in cost will be the quantity and quality of fittings, for example, we prefer to fit taps and showers that are backed by 5 year manufacturers warranties and we will not supply and fit the very cheapest products available from DIY bargain stores.

Budget & DIY Bathrooms

With some careful compromises, however, the boutique bathroom look can be achieved on a smaller budget. As a company we could never recommend you buy cheap fittings, you do get what you pay for and the low prices can be a false economy.

All bathrooms and kitchens installed by Tara will comply with Building Regulations. If you get quotes from other installers make sure they are aware of building regulations.

Where to Buy Quality Bathrooms

We usually supply all materials for the job. Many items which we install are only supplied to order, so are not found in every other bathroom.

Specialist plumbing merchants supply a huge range of high quality products which you will not find in High Street stores.
